In this program, the District's traditional academic curriculum is combined with a special focus on science. Kindergarten, first, second and third graders study plants, matter, weather, and the senses through a combination of reading materials, laser disc technology, and "hands-on" experiments.

The Science and Technology Magnet is continued in grades 4-6 at
Kennedy Middle School. Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders devote up to one hour daily exploring the areas of life science, physical science, earth science, and the human body. Students complete such special projects as constructing and launching a model rocket and investigating careers in science.

In addition, students at all grade levels take science-related field trips to such places as the
Adler Planetarium, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Robert Crowne Center for Health Education.
