4 Blocks Literacy Framework

Four Blocks is a multimethod, multilevel literacy framework developed by Pat Cunningham and Dottie Hall of Wake Forest University and utilized by thousands elementary classrooms.

Writing Block Overview

Focus:
Modeling by instructor of the writing process •Practice of writing process •Apply knowledge of phonics •Build confidence as a writer

Segment One:	5 - 10 minutes
Teacher directs a whole group lesson
Teacher writes and models the things writers do, including: –selecting a topic spelling troublesome words– editing and publishing work
Segment Two:	15 - 20 minutes
Students write on a wide variety of topics Teacher conferences with five to six students on an individual basis During the last five minutes students are allowed to continue writing or to illustrate
Segment Three	(5 - 10 minutes)
•Selected students share their work and answer questions
